Historic Kent gets its first new 4* hotel of 2010

The historic Kentish town of Sittingbourne will have a new hotel opening in Spring 2010. The Coniston is the project of two enterprising local businessmen Ernie Berntsen and Chris Richardson who have spent four years renovating the original Coniston House – built as a private residence dating back to 1880.

The multi-million pound new development is aiming for a 4* grading with 71 en-suite bedrooms and 8 suites, plus a fine dining restaurant seating approximately 100 guests. It has traded as The Coniston Hotel for over 100 years and was the only hotel in Sittingbourne. The hotel was sold in January 2003 but remained boarded up until 2006 when Ernie Berntsen and Chris Richardson acquired it and set about reclaiming its former glory.

Accessibility
Equidistant and only half an hour’s drive from both Eurostar stations at Ashford International and Ebbsfleet International, The Coniston can easily be reached from Brussels and Paris within less than 2½ hours. Additionally, with the new high speed rail of Southeastern Trains Sittingbourne is well connected to London and therefore attractive for companies from continental Europe looking for a modern and reasonable meeting venue in Kent’s scenic countryside.

Conference and Banqueting facilities will be substantial, having extended the original ballroom on the ground floor which has its own dedicated entrance. Anticipated capacities for social events will be up to 180 guests and conference delegates between 200 and 250. To complement the main room, The Coniston will have a further 6 break-out rooms on the first floor with their own catering area. A conference office and business centre will also ensure that event organisers and delegates have the full range of business services available.
